Charities and Donations

There are so many great charities and causes out there worth supporting.  In founding the Big 5 Kayak Challenge it was about challenging adventures, and of course doing something we love doing. To us it seemed logical that if you could make a difference to others, raise some funds for charity and awareness for a good cause then that was perfect.

Each year we have supported different charities and causes. All monies donated have been passed directly to the charities and we have paid all our own expedition fees.

London to Marrakech

During the London to Marrakech expedition Richard was joined by several friends on the epic journey. Two of them chose to raise funds for their own charities and causes.

Richard Ferguson and Stuart raised over £1000 each for their two different charities.

We have also supported the following charities in different ways;

ABF (Army Benevolent Fund) – The Soldiers Charity

Richard was contacted by Andy North, one half of the Yorkshire Duo who are planning the ‘Sunshine Challenge’ running, cycling and kayaking from Catterick Garrison in Yorkshire to Gibraltar.  They are running a marathon in the morning and cycling in the afternoon and kayaking the English Channel.  Richard agreed to support them by teaching them to kayak to allow them to sea kayak the channel.  Last year the Yorkshire Duo raised over £32,000 for the ABF and they are targeting a higher target this year.

As part of this support Richard will be cycling to Holland for the ABF to join his old rugby club Bedford Swifts on tour. He is also running some ‘Come and Try’ Canoeing from which part of the fees will be donated to the ABF.  At the Adventure Travel Live Show and Outdoor Leisure Show the Big 5 Kayak Challenge stand also raised just over £400 for the charity.

Hopes and Homes

We provided some outdoor equipment as prizes for their raffle at their Night of Adventure 2011

The Family Holiday Association

We are working with a great group of travel industry proffesionals who wanted to undertake a kayaking challenge to raise money for the Family Holiday Association. We have organised various training sessions and will be helping them with the actual fundraising event.
