Leg 1 – The Isle of Wight
Day 1 – Leave Boatshow – Start 5.30pm – 16.75 miles / 26.95 kms with the Ebb Tide
• Leave Boatshow near Quay West Road, Southampton • Cross East to West across Southampton Water taking care with any shipping • Head South along West Bank down past Hythe, taking care with the ferry at the pier • Cross from Hythe Back to East Bank arriving near Hamble le Rice on East Bank to avoid Fawley • Cross the entrance to the Hamble River avoiding other craft, we will use the shallows where possible • Cross from Hill Head / Titchfield Haven across to the Isle of Wight • Head South on crossing (allowing for Eastern flowing tides) to between Wootton Creek and Ryde • Stop near to Ryde for Night 1
Day 2 – start 11am to access tides - 32.21 Miles / 51.84 kms (with Tides)
• Head from Ryde around island in a clockwise direction • Paddle past Seaview to Eastern side at Benbridge • Stay close to shallows and ability to put out if required • Head Southwest direction down to Whitecliff Bay • Continue past Sandown and Shanklin • Head to Southern point at St Catherines Point – Assess paddlers – last place to put on with ease • Head North West along South Side of Island up to Freshwater Bay • Stop at Freshwater Bay for Night 2
Day 3 – Start 7am to round Needles and paddle back to BoatShow 29.17 Miles and 46.95 kms (with Tides)
• Paddle along Southside and around the Needles (if conditions were bad we could take river crossing / short cut instead) • Round the needles, hug the island and head North East direction towards Yarmouth • Cross Shipping lane at 90 degrees from Yarmouth towards Lymmington • Paddle North East towards Calshot on the North Side (outside of the Shipping Channel) • At Calshot head North back into Southampton Water hugging the coastline • Paddle on the West Side of the estuary back up past Hythe • Cross back West to East to Southampton Boatshow just south of the yards on the west Bank
